There are loads of content on the internet, and a massive amount of videos and posts are added daily. Millions of these contents make it to your feeds every day, and you cannot always be sure about which one to feed your mind on.

What we consume daily matters a lot, to how we shape our future. You might find it hard to understand this at first because it is not necessarily a physical process. A better way to understand this concept is how our body transforms based on what we eat.

One meal is not enough to transform our body, but it casts a vote towards the kind of body we would have overtime. The same thing applies to our thoughts and actions. The things we feed our minds on all come together and eventually determine who we become.

Our mind deserves all the protection it can get. So much happens in 24 hours, talk less of a week, months, or even years, and things keep building up. Therefore, we must have absolute control over what goes into our minds and not the other way around. If we can achieve this, we would not have to struggle with most things.

It takes deliberate effort to feed our brain with contents that will help us grow, and it might seem like a big challenge at first. Once you understand that your goal is to sift through and reduce the noise, it becomes easier. To overcome this problem, here are some tips you can follow:

1.Build your own playlists

You can build playlists for all or some of your daily activities. The goal of this is to keep you focused on a set of routines so that you do not get lost in time. You can have a morning music playlist, LinkedIn learning playlist, a playlist for your educational YouTube videos, etc.

2.Be selective on social media

Follow only the people that add value to your life, and mute the rest. On social media, take the time to clean up your feeds. This will mean you will stop following some people and some topics on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. This might be challenging at first, but it will definitely be the sanity boost you need.

3.Replace news with encouraging contents

Instead of watching the news that could be depressing, you can decide to spend that time to see encouraging videos, podcasts, or even watch success stories of people you hold dear. The truth is most news contents are not worth your time, and if it is that important, you will get someone to tell you.

4.Take a break from your phone

Lots of time, I go for picnics or visit the coffee shop to spend time reading. I take time to relax and get the real energy boost I need. You should do the same sometime.

5.Find your tribe

You can join a self-development community on social media platforms like Facebook, Quora, or Reddit. These communities would help you network and learn from other people’s experiences. They also help with accountability and can serve as a support system for you. This support system can also be your friends, family, spouse, etc. Knowing you are not alone on a journey helps you remain focused for a long time. You can also get friends to recommend materials for you, materials that will help in your self-development.

You need to consume better to be better. Your mindset is vital on this journey, and you have to feed it with what it needs. It is a journey you decide for yourself, and it is pretty rewarding.

We all hope towards our desired future. The truth is, the future we hope for is a direct result of our past. Your future self needs you to do the work now!
